Golconda Fort

The fort is located on the western part of the city and was a stronghold of the Qutub Shahi kings and Nizams. Situated at a distance of 9 Km from the Hussain Sagar Lake, it was originally built as a mud fort by the Raja of Warangal in the 12th century. The inner part of the fort contains ruins of palaces, mosques and a hill top pavilion which offers a complete view of the surrounding area.

The Fateh Darwaza, which is the outermost enclosure is the place from where Aurangzeb’s victorious army entered the fort. The acoustical effects here is one of the unique engineering marvels of the middle ages.  By clapping your hand from a certain point close to the dome, you can hear its echo from the hill top pavilion. This was used for warning the inhabitants of the palace against any impending danger.

These tombs are located at a short distance from the Golconda fort. One of the oldest monuments of the city, these tombs are a unique blend of Indian and Persian styles of architecture. These tombs are a unique synthesis of Hindu, Afghan, Persian as well as Deccani architectural styles. The corridors and entrance of the tomb are a perfect example of the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture.
